「國立台灣大學日式宿舍-陳玉麟教授故居」，又稱野草居食屋，是日治時期遺留下來的木造老宿舍，前一任屋主為臺灣大學農化系的陳玉麟教授(1921/5/20~1996/5/15)，陳教授於1942年獲得日本熊本大學藥學士；1959年獲日本九州大學農學博士，並曾兩次赴美進行農藥研究，1971-1977年擔任臺灣大學農化系系主任及研究所所長，1978年更創立「中華民國雜草學會」，在農藥化學之教學研究以及雜草生態與防治上貢獻逾五十年，即便退休後仍積極參與相關會議及工作。

現在我們為這木屋注入夜晚的庶民食學並帶回老台北的南區記憶，每日黃昏後將一天的疲累與喧囂留在野草大門外，一間老屋、三兩好友、五六杯酒、幾盤鮮甜，一同大口吃進、大口喝下生活的種種感動。

Fireweed is housed in an old wooden house built during the time of Japanese occupation in Taiwan. The previous occupant of this house was professor Yu Ling Chen (1921/5/20~1996/5/15) with the Agricultural Chemistry Department of National Taiwan University. Professor Yu Ling Chen obtained a Bachelor degree in pharmacology from Kumamoto University, Japan. In 1959 he obtained a Ph.D. degree in Agriculture from Kyushu University, Japan. He visited the United States twice for studies on agricultural chemicals. From 1971 to 1977, professor Chen was Head of Agricultural Chemistry Department and Chairman of the Agricultural Chemistry Institute, National Taiwan University. In 1978 he founded the Chinese Wed Science Society. Professor Chen dedicated over half a century’s time on teaching and studies related to the ecology of weeds and agricultural control of weeds. He was still active even after his retirement, and was often seen present in conventions and conferences.

Our intention is to offer down-to-earth common folks’ night snack in Fireweeds. Through the food we hope to call back your recollection of the olden days in southern Taipei. In the evening, after dusk, leave your tiredness and noises out of the door of Fireweeds. In an old wooden house, a couple or more acquaintances, half a dozen drinks, a number of dishes, eat, drink and be merry.
